The brand character at Inverewe House expresses the personality of the people and place, with a design approach that is unique, eccentric, playful and bold. Sources of design inspiration that were key to bringing the garden to life included Victorian circus promotion and authors like Roald Dahl and Lewis Carroll. This resulted in an eccentric playfulness of language, such as “The Greatest Show In Earth”.
The desire to engage and delight visitors is emphasised within each of the rooms in the house. Insights to their passions and character are treated with wit and creativity, such as Mairi’s favourite chocolate cake recipe printed on the kitchen table, a game of quoits on the wall and a working Bakelite telephone playing entertaining messages, giving visitors a glimpse into the life and times of Mairi Sawyer. The Inverewe House experience is always connecting house and garden - in the Seed Bar in the kitchen, visitors are offered a sachet to take seeds home to ‘recreate your own Inverewe’
